This morning I was reading through Chapter 4 in the Book of Acts and came across some scripture which I am I sure I have read dozens of times or more over the years. When I read these words this morning they spoke to me and jumped out at me to remind me of a time years ago.
It's been more than a dozen years ago when I was doing some consulting for a small drilling fluids company. I found out that the owner, Bill, was a "Christian" and was also doing volunteer prison ministry, so one day I decided (or was led) to share my faith in God, and what brought me into this awesome relationship that I have with Jesus Christ. Bill remembered the years past when he and I were competitors in the mud business, so he new about my past success, but not so much about my failure.
I told Bill my testimony about the peaks and the valleys, the goods and the bads, in my life after the oil and gas industry crumbled in 1986. I shared about how my life had turned completely around and was now blessed and successful. After hearing my story he said nice and wonderful things about God, and then he said, and I am paraphrasing, "Please don't tell your story to anyone on a rig while you are representing my company." He was fearful of the loss of business. He was fearful instead of faithful. Rather than seeing the blessing that could come from such a testimony he was fearful. This morning as I read in Acts Chapter 4 these words reminded me of that time.
Acts 4:18 So they called the apostles back in and told them never again to speak or teach about Jesus. 19 But Peter and John replied, "Do you think God wants us to obey you rather than him? 20 We cannot stop telling about the wonderful things we have seen and heard."
That day when I was asked not to tell my story, a very awesome and powerful story of what GOD can do, I said "No" that if GOD leads me speak then I will speak, and thank God that I do. My story which has been told scores of times over the years on mud pits, in dog houses, crews quarterss, offices, whever and whenever God leads, has led dozens of men to the Lord as we prayed publicly and privately wherever God's Spirit called.
The power of a testimony of what GOD has done in a life, no matter how large or how small, is powerful enough to change a life. What Jesus has done to make a change in your life, heal an illness, or even brighten your day, whatever He has done should be shared for His glory, and so the seed of God's Spirit will be planted in the listener.
Would God have wanted me to "...never again speak or teach about Jesus."? Absolutely not. I am to obey God and not man, that is why I said no. Just like Peter and John I cannot stop telling about the wonderful things I have seen and heard.
Have a blessed day and remember to share a blessing.
