Supernatural Faith

Most of us have heard the word supernatural describe many different things throughout our lives.  We have heard of Super Man with his supernatural hearing, seeing, ability to fly, and so on.  There are so many different characters with supernatural abilities of one sort or another.  Did you know that as children of God we have certain supernatural abilities?

We have something available called supernatural faith.  Let's breakdown, and look at the word supernatural.  The word super is defined as: great; extreme; greater or better than others of its kind; to a degree more than normal.  The word natural is defined as: normal; usual.  So then supernatural faith can be defined as faith that is greater than normal, extreme faith, excessive faith, faith that is greater or better than others of it's kind.

Supernatural faith goes beyond believing to knowing.  For instance I don't simply believe that there is one supreme God, I know there is one supreme God.  I know Gods existence, because I am a direct recipient of His awesome love, and grace.  I don't simply believe that God hears and answers prayers; I know that He hears and answers prayers.  I know God hears, because He heard my cry for Him when I was addicted to cocaine.  I know God answers, because He saved me from the addiction, and He gave me a new life.

1 John 5:14-15 tells of this supernatural faith of knowing.  14And we can be confident (know) that he will listen to us whenever we ask him for anything in line with his will.  15And if we know he is listening when we make our requests, we can be sure (know) that he will give us what we ask for.

The emphasis here is on God's will, not our will.  When we go to God in prayer we discuss His will, what He wants for us.  We know that He will listen, and we can know that when He listens, He will give us what we ask for.  Pray with confidence.  Confidence for the believer is not having faith in ourselves, but in God who is greater than ourselves.

Supernatural faith is patient faith.

Romans 8:25 speaks of patience and faith.  25But if we look forward to something we don't have yet, we must wait patiently and confidently.

Children by nature trust their parents, even though parents sometimes fail to keep their promises.  These failed promises tend to create a spirit of impatience; however, our father in heaven never makes promises that He won't keep.  Hebrews 6:18 18So God has given us both his promise and his oath.  These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie.  Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can take new courage, for we can hold on to his promise with confidence.  Now, God's plan may take more time than we expect or want, but if we really have supernatural faith, we know that God will fulfill His promise.  Hebrews 10:23 23Without wavering, let us hold tightly to the hope we say we have, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.  Instead of acting like impatient children, we must have patient confidence in God's perfect timing and wisdom.

Finally, supernatural faith is wisdom-based faith.  Wisdom is defined as the ability to make wise decisions.  Wisdom comes from God.  Whenever we need wisdom we can go directly to God in prayer, and He will supply the wisdom that we need.  God is willing to give us this wisdom, but we will be unable to receive it if our goals are self-centered, and not God centered.

James 1:5-7 makes this very clear and understandable.  5If you need wisdom-if you want to know what God wants you to do-ask him, and he will gladly tell you.  He will not resent your asking.  6But when you ask him, be sure that you really expect him to answer, for a doubtful mind is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.  7People like that should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.

We must not have any doubts that God's way is the best way.  We must know that God's way is the absolute best way.  We cannot be double minded.  We cannot have any doubt.  We must know.  A doubtful mind treats God's word like it is just any other human advice, and therefore retains the option to disobey.  Proverbs 118:8 8It is better to trust the Lord, than to put confidence in people.  When you go to God for wisdom, you must know that all wisdom comes from God, and that His answers are the answers of supernatural wisdom.  Proverbs 1:23 23Come here and listen to me!  I'll pour out the spirit of wisdom upon you and make you wise.  Ask Him for wisdom and know that He will give it to you; then your decisions will be sure and solid.

If you feel like you have a wavering or doubtful mind, take the time now to re-commit yourselves wholeheartedly to God.  If you want to stop being tossed about, rely on God to show you what is best for you.  Accept God's answers with supernatural faith and be blessed.
